MEDIEVAL BANQUET  & GHOST HUNT
AT COOMBE ABBEY, COVENTRY, STAFFORDSHIRE

THIS VENUE IS EXCLUSIVE TO EERIE EVENINGS!

In what is surely the first event of its kind, Eerie Evenings and Coombe Abbey are joining forces to offer a night of first-class entertainment. Renowned for its Medieval Banquets, Coombe Abbey is also an incredibly haunted building. This event will give you the chance to enjoy Coombe's famous Medieval Banquet, followed by the privilege of taking part  in the first ever ghost-hunt or paranormal investigation carried out at this stunning location. As far as anyone is aware, no-one has ever been allowed to investigate the haunted happenings which have occurred here over the centuries.

Originally founded as 'The Abbey of Cumbe' in 1150 by Cistercian monks, it existed as a monastery until 1540 when Henry VIII took possession of it during the Dissolution. A new house was built on the site in 1581 before the Craven family became the owners in 1622. They would reside at Coombe Abbey for the next 300 years.

From 1923 it changed hands several times, until work began in 1992 to develop the site into a 'No Ordinary' hotel. Since then it has become one of the area's most luxurious venue and hundreds of people attend its famous Medieval Banquets each week.

However, most of these revellers are unaware that Coombe Abbey has a long history of haunted folklore. One of the most famous tales dates back to 1345 when a monk, Abbott Geoffrey, was brutally murdered. His murderer was never caught and this apparently lead to the downfall of the monastery. It is believed that Geoffrey is responsible for much of the paranormal activity at Coombe, especially in the kitchens, where items are thrown and moved by unseen hands. Many visitors have reported seeing a cowled figure floating around the grounds - could this be Abbott Geoffrey's restless spirit?

If so, he is not the only one still haunting Coombe. Many people over the years have reported hearing the sound of dainty footsteps running across the old cobbled courtyard. These footsteps have been attributed to Matilda, a gypsy girl made pregnant and spurned by the master of the house over 300 years ago. When she gave birth to a stillborn son, she reportedly laid a curse stating that no male heir born to the Craven family would live to old age. Strangely enough, in the 300 or more years since, no male heir has made it past middle age.

Other ghostly visitors include that of a horseman who rides near the Lodge House and a mysterious woman in Victorian costume who is seen on a bicycle on the road outside the Abbey. Staff and visitors alike have experienced many other strange occurrences in the building itself, typical paranormal activity such as unexplainable cold draughts, the slamming of doors and the unnerving sensation that they are being watched. The large chandelier in the Cloisters building is also often seen swinging violently by itself , which is particularly strange as no-one can reach it and there is little chance of a draught in that area.

We are sure that there is much yet to be discovered at Coombe Abbey, so why not join us for an evening you will never forget? Enjoy the food and entertainment of the Medieval Banquet before embarking on a genuine paranormal investigation into the unknown, as we try to discover exactly who is haunting Coombe Abbey.
